Busy Bee Cafe is based out of Atlanta, GA and is owned by Tracy Gates. If you've been in or around Atlanta for any amount of time, you have most likely heard about Busy Bee. My wife and I heard about it within the first year of moving to Georgia and made a trip to this cafe. This cozy cafe has some of the best chicken you will ever eat!

Established in 1947, Busy Bee's soul food has attracted celebrity Chef and Restauranteur Emeril Lagasse. Its history includes being located on what was once known as Hunter Street, which was 1 of only 2 streets that Black entrepreneurs could own restaurants on in the 40's. Whether you've never been to Busy Bee or go there on a regular basis, make sure to keep going to support this staple of Atlanta!

Richards' Southern Fried Chicken

Todd Richards owns Richards' Southern Fried Chicken that is located in the Krog Street Market section of Atlanta, GA. My wife and I went there several months ago when she heard about a great Black-owned restaurant in the Market. As we sat at the counter, we were fortunate enough the sit next to Todd's father who displayed his genuine pride in his son's success. (He also cleared up the pronunciation of their last name..."ree-shards".)

And once we received our order we understood why his father was so proud! The chicken had a unique yet flavorful taste to it and was complimented well by the traditional southern sides. You may have to get yours To-Go as the counter is usually packed with those who are taking in the atmosphere of Richards'.

Le Petite Marche

You've surely heard that a dollar circulates in the Black community for only 6 hours - even though it's estimated that we have well over $1 Trillion in buying power!

My personal database of Black-owned Businesses grows every time I am exposed to another business. This exposure can come through personal networking, colleague referrals, social media or Google searches.

I am often asked "What do you plan to do with this database?" The short answer has always been that I refer to it personally before spending any of my own dollars. I also serve as a resource for others who are serious about spending money in our community first.

Now that my database is approaching 500 entries, I want to share the company information with you on a regular basis. If you are aware of a Black-owned business that I can share with others, please let me know. The only criteria is that the company has to be at least 51% Black-owned. I will only share public information such as website url, address, phone number, etc.

The first company I want to highlight is Le Petite Marche, which is owned by Marchet Sparks. It translates to "The Little Market" and is a great spot for entertaining clients and colleagues. The restaurant is located in the Kirkwood section of East Atlanta. Make sure to check it out and show our Sister some support!
